John Klekamp, M.D. - Medical Director

A recognized expert in the field of spinal surgery and trauma medecine, John received his M.D. from Mercer University Medical School and conducted his internships and residencies at Vanderbilt University Medical School in the areas of internal medicine and orthopaedics and rehabilitation. John also served a fellowship at the Emory Spine Center of Emory University. Additionally, John is certified in Advanced Trauma Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Water Safety Instruction (WSI), and also serves as an American Red Cross Volunteer.

In addition to his medical practice, John works diligently to help rehabilitate spinal injury patients. John is also an accomplished endurance and adventure sports athlete, having completed the Pine Mountain 1/2 Marathon 1999, Chicago Marathon 2000, Lake Chatuge Challenge, and Half Ironman 2002 (3rd Place in category), Music City Marathon 2002, Duke Blue Devil Iron Man Triathon (Fourth Masters Clydesdale), Six Gap Century Ride 2004. John is an avid whitewater kayaker and has skydived, hang glided, and is both PADI +NAUI SCUBA certified.

John has received numerous awards, notably from the American College of Physicians in New Orleans with the Merck Young Investigator Award, and Best Resident Paper by the Vanderbilt Orthopaedic Society. John Klekamp is a member of the American Medical Association, Vanderbilt Orthopaedic Society.

As chief medical director for HSE, John Klekamp oversees HSE's first aid and wilderness survival training programs and frequently serves as an on-site physician during training Evolutions.
